Let’s do a Top 10 Personally satisfying/enjoyable/memorable video game moments, it does not have to be in order, and obviously the more you describe the more clearer picture some of us can picture in our heads, but please, format it so we all can read each moment clearly, here is My Top 10 Satisfying/Enjoyable/Memorable Video Game moments, these are in no particular order.
10: Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Campaign - Ending: I admit, I was not a big fan of the direction of this Call Of Duty entry, however the campaign was truly an experience I enjoyed, but what got me feeling excited was was the ending,

After escaping from the Atlas controlled prison, Commander Cormack has died from his wounds at the hand of the games antagonist Johnathan Irons(Voiced by Kevin Spacey and actually looks like Kevin Spacey in every way possible), our heroes travel to hunt down Johnathan Irons, after a series of events, Jack Mitchell whom had a prosthetic arm destroyed by Johnathan Irons, whom originally gave him the arm when he joined Atlas and Gideon are frozen in their exosuits, Mitchell manages to free himself and chases after a fleeing Johnathan Irons, Johnathan irons is pinned down and falls out a broken window, holding onto the broken prosthetic arm of Mitchell, below him is a blazing inferno, a ”quick time event” has Mitchell arming a knife and swinging his prosthetic arm to get it closer to the knife, despite Johnathan Irons ”Reminding Him” that he gave him the prothstetic arm and a second chance, Mitchel cuts off the prosthetic arm, sending Johnathan Irons to his death, his final words as he fell were ”AHHH! MITCHELL” he is lifted back on his feet by Gideon who also managed to free himself and he looks down and just says ”It was only gonna end one way for him” No COD campaign set in the future gave me a feeling of satisfaction like that.
9: GTA V - Torture Mission: Call me sadistic, but for some strange reason this moment in the game felt oddly satisfying and enjoyable to me, the moment basically is torturing an individual for information, the torture techniques range from pulling teeth out with pliers to literally breaking a mans penis with a giant monkey wrench and more, this moment is simply too good that inflicting pain and seeing the reaction is very satisfying.
8: Finally Completing a Doom E1M1 100% Ultra-Violence no damage run: The amount of hours I grinded is insane, so when I finally finished a Doom E1M1 100% Ultra-Violence no damage run, I felt an absolute surge of emotions from relief to happiness to anger to joy, the list goes on.
7: Freedom Fighters - Hotel: This is more akin to using the AI’s pretty poor Grenade avoidance mechanics to comedic effect, that and using the infinite ammo and max charisma cheat, You go to a area near the beginning, hire 12 rebels, have them defend near a external stairwell thing(I don’t know what it’s called), and toss a grenade behind them, and just watch them react some actually run from the grenade, some not far enough, some far enough, and other just duck and end up getting blown over the railing to fall to the ground.
And the icing on the cake is throwing the grenade as they come up the stairs and to see some of them get blown back down the stairs and others do the usual get far away from the exploring grenade, and in some cases if there are men above the first flight of steps throwing the grenade at the level below and seeing some of the men just get blown over the railing from an explosion below them, oh I swear, it is ALWAYS funny to do that, in confession it makes me laugh so much, that once the novelty and comedy has worn off, I literally have to get a change of pants because.........yeah.
6: Getting to max Echlon on Doom(2016) Multiplayer: The long 3 month grind was in hindsight was my biggest multiplayer achievement yet, and glad I got there when I did considering that the multiplayer of Doom(2016) is pretty much dead in Australia.
5: VR F1 2019: This is a very recent moment but after spending an hour and near $100AUD on programs needed for getting F1 2019 to work in VR, the experience was breathtaking, and immersive which to me is a big plus, the only negative is I got motion sick quickly which is rare as I don’t get motion sick easily so this occurrence of motion sickness is truly rare.
4: F1 2015 - 2014 Season - Germany - Brother championship: Me and my bro had been trading blows back and forth in the drivers championship for a few months by the time this happened, but the race at Germany was a true test of our skills, especially the literally last 5 laps, where a measly tenth of a second was the gap between me and my bro, and on the last lap, my bro made a bad mistake on the second last corner, securing my win, and my God, what a race, a true test of skill and strategy, pad vs wheel, Ferrari vs Red Bull, the aggressive driver vs the patient driver, we BOTH dislike the new Hockenheim layout and definitely love the older pre 2004 layout, but this time around we loved Hockenheim, not for the tracks layout, but for the race we had, and those last 5 laps, what a race.
3: Minecraft - Private Server - Prank: Ok so on my private server, I allow pranking and I had pranked my bro by spamming saplings all around his house, which grew into a massive tree canopy, he said he loved the prank and called it ”A pretty good prank”, but his retaliation and my delayed reaction was the real icing on the cake, I had a horse on a leash, and somehow, my bro made a platform in the sky with my horse on it, and when I first saw the platform, I shrugged it off, not even noticing my horse was not at the entrance where I left him, finally my bro said 2 weeks later ”Notice anything missing bro” so I looked and said ”Where my horse?”, then I look up at the platform and see something up there, and I then say ”How the hell did my horse get up there”, I heard my bro absolutely laughing out loud, as he said ”You have no idea how long that took me to do, but in hindsight, It was so worth it. So naturally I tried to get it down, and accidentally got my horse killed of fall damage which had my bro laughing even louder and he was literally rolling on the floor laughing, I took in good spirit and just said ”Great Retaliation bro, but you mark my words, You have unleashed the Prank Monster, and my retaliation will be enough to make you regret pranking ”The Prank King”(Though to be clear I did make it a rule to give the victim of a prank a chance to retaliate as to not do so would be unfair), sadly the server has been very inactive for 4 months now.
2: Minecraft - Private Server - Prank: So my best friend does not do the pranking, but he will do a retaliation prank to the prankster, and I saw fit to entomb my best friends house in cobblestone, so his retaliation was to fill my base with cobblestone, every nook and cranny he could find, my God what a chore but when I found out it was him, I just smiled and said ”Very funny man, very funny, I entomb your house so you buried mine”, he just said ”Use cobblestone in your prank on me and I’ll use the same block for my retaliation on you”
1: GTA V Online - Being able to buy whatever I want, whenever I want: So I am basically filthy rich in GTA V Online, so much so I could buy anything I want, and still have money to burn, which kind of fuels my desire to become absurdly rich to the point where I can blow millions or billions on fruitless projects or outright give it away because I’m that kind of guy that hate homelessness and believes giving homeless people billions of dollars will reduce the homelessness rate dramatically because none of the world governments want to spend billions reducing it.
BUT I also learned something, Money really does not make you feel better, after buying an expensive car, I got a momentary buzz of excitement and enjoyment out of it, then I would store it in a garage to ”Collect Dust” and I go back to how I felt before the purchase, it also taught me that having access to lot’s of money, and being able to buy whatever you want whenever you want makes an item of desire and value, valueless and meaningless, it just becomes an object that when you die it becomes even more meaningless and worthless, not to mention it becomes nothing more than junk that even to collectors will never be sellable for more than it was purchased for, because it was once owned by someone who had so much money that could buy that thing ten times over. Money truly is not able to bring one happiness, nothing in moneys nature is capable of providing a long lasting feeling of happiness, if anything more money makes you more miserable. Ahem sorry about that last bit, I got carried away in the moment. But now, it’s your turn to do a Top 10 Satisfying/Enjoyable/Memorable Video Game moments comment. P.S. Hello! You might know me from my team-by-team analyses in the Day After Debriefs. Well, I’m here on the main feed now with something I wanted to present to you all with my bug for commentary still not sated. So, we find ourselves half-way through what a lot were expecting to be an absolute bore of a season after the first few races. Mercedes looked to have a far superior car to either of their challengers, and it didn’t look like there was going to be much of a challenge to be offered all season. And yet, we look back on the first twelve races (the last four in particular) oddly optimistic for what’s to come. Now what happened there? I’ll explore this and more as I walk my way down through the grid, by order of constructor’s standings, and give my opinions on each team and their drivers’ performances so far in the 2019 season. Mercedes, the big dogs on campus by any description, on an absolute streak of form that’s never really faltered in the formula first established in 2014. The German outfit didn’t just hit the ground running, but sprinting in 2019, having clearly gotten the inside line on how this year’s new simplified aero concept needs to be developed to play nice with this year’s spec of Pirelli tyres. No other team seems to have a grasp on how to get them working like Merc this year. Not only that, but the car has found a groove in technical corners the likes of which it’s never had before, and when you combine these with the well-oiled machine that the strategy team and pit crew are, they’re looking like an unstoppable force in their bid to claim their 6th straight constructor’s title, an absolutely maddening feat in this day and age. Barring complete disaster, I don’t see how their momentum is going to be derailed, and it’s every credit to them. Grade : A+, for being the class of the field as we expect them to be by now. Lewis Hamilton is showing this year precisely why he is a five-time champion, and on course to become six-time. Lightning quick in both race and qualifying situations, seemingly always able to eke out the best of a bad situation, and if his darkest hour of this year can be summed up by a chaotic wet race that had seven retirees (of which he wasn’t even one of them)? You know you’re witnessing something special. He’s got a couple of pretenders to his throne as F1 champion still, but he is going to take some effort to be beaten, as has become the norm with him. The best of his generation, and having no problems displaying why he’ll be regarded as such. Grade : A+, for looking on-course to outstrip the only man who seemed to look insurmountable in the record books Valtteri Bottas seemed to be undergoing something of a renaissance after Australia. Out-qualified Lewis Hamilton in equal machinery (a feat in and of itself), Dominated the race, picking up a victory that was sorely needed after the doldrums he went through for the course of 2018. Struggled some in Bahrain, where the Ferrari was the outright better car, and lost out at T1, Lap 1 in China to never really recover. Something of a return to form in Baku, out-qualifying Lewis(!), but from Spain on, Valtteri’s season can be summed up by asking a simple question: What happened? The simple answer being that Lewis Hamilton happened, with four straight wins that served as something of a ‘back in your box’ to the Finn. Where that killer edge Bottas seemed to have found went, we’ll never know, but I can assure you of this: Valtteri needs to have already found it again come Spa or his championship hopes this year are all but over. There’s a certain Dutchman who’s hot on his heels… Grade : B, for mounting a wicked comeback in form, but letting it falter far too soon. Ferrari have this year shown exactly why you shouldn't put too much stock into what pre-season testing fancies to foretell. “They’ve made a weapon!”, people cried. “This year’s finally the year!” the Tifosi sobbed out with relief. But then, the chips came down and the Scuderia were handed one of their most comprehensive drubbings this side of the formula. On paper, it doesn’t look too bad - they were still consistently scoring Top 6 finishes and podiums. But the problem was that when they were losing out, in the confines of the big three teams, it was happening without so much as a kick of retaliation. The car’s concept has clearly gone down a road not befitting at all to a championship contender, and the team’s operations have been much more miss than hit, with such gems as essentially forgetting Charles Leclerc existed in Canada, and letting the Monegasque drop out in Q1 of his home race. There’s been some shoots of promise in recent races, sure, but not enough to overlook that this year categorically is not their year. Next year, anyone…? Grade : B-, for essentially being the Ferrari that’s been bridesmaid but never the bride for the past six years, with even that much in question this year. Sebastian Vettel has had a tough old time of things since the seeming resurgence of Ferrari in 2017. A car that could and did win races for the first two years, only for it to blow up in his face somehow towards the crucial stages of the season. And now, a car that can only really win a race on its best and luckiest day, and even then, it still hasn’t happened yet. The Seb that seemed to be spiralling out of control (literally) in the back end of last year never quite went away, unfortunately, and a despairing defeat in Canada courtesy of what was a dubious time penalty at the time only seemed to be making it worse. That being said, Seb found a bit of his groove again when he charted a course to redemption at his home race after the misery of last year, and continued that form in Hungary to pick up a podium place that was the best result he and the Scuderia could have hoped for. The championship well out of his grasp at this point, but hopefully he can give Ferrari and the fanbase a bit of hope in the latter half of the season that the team isn’t dead and buried just yet. Grade: B, for having me worried at first, but starting to pull it back. Charles Leclerc has had a whirlwind of an F1 debut - highlight of the midfield in 2018 in a resurgent Alfa Romeo-backed machine, and making the big jump to his dream team after just one solitary year. Has he lived up to the hype? Honestly, no, but he has lived up to realistic expectations for a driver of his calibre. Charles, as he is now, is still very much rough around the edges as an F1 driver, and something we need to remember is that he’s being consistently compared to a four-time F1 champion, and a man with the potential to do just the same, but who has four years in this level of the sport on the Monaco man. Leclerc, in my view, has had the season he’s really needed to have this year. Adversity and challenges to overcome, some flashes of brilliance to show that calling him up was absolutely justified, and a lesson that not everything in his career with the Scuderia is going to be rosy and bright. He’s shown a very level head thus far, and a steady pair of hands on the wheel, so I have a quiet confidence this year will continue to help him build into the championship-level driver pretty much everyone thinks that he can be in the future. Grade : B, for showing just what it’s like to be dragged so rapidly up the food chain, but not sinking among the sharks in the water Red Bull were, of all three top teams, the ones with the most to lose this season. They were entering uncharted waters in terms of having a new engine supplier in Honda, and having to pare back their aerodynamic package when theirs had been the class of the field for quite some time, simply held back by the engine powering it. The general consensus was that if they could be no worse off than they were before, it would be a success. Well, in that case, I would call the maiden season of Red Bull Honda so far a roaring success. A start that had hallmarks of that hope for them that’s evolved and blossomed into a team that, with a driver lineup firing on all cylinders, I have faith would be matching, if not beating Ferrari at this point. Pit stops still the slickest on the grid after those double-stack masterclasses last year, a chassis that’s starting to come into its own beautifully, and a working relationship with the Japanese outfit that’s given them one of the best redemption stories in the sport this side of the decade. With a much-talked-about engine upgrade coming in the beginning of September, this dynamite partnership looks on course to take a fight to Mercedes that could well set up a scrap of the titans in 2020. We all live in hope. Grade : A, for topping everyone’s expectations and bringing back the excitement to the sport we thought was slipping through our fingers. There is no denying that Max Verstappen is in the form of his career right now. To have come away from the first half of the season with two victories against the might of Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, as well as a driver who many are lining up to be his foil in future years, Charles Leclerc, is something to be wonderfully proud of. But let’s not forget the rest of his achievements thus far. Finally bagging that first pole position and coming away with podiums in three other races - two of which seemed like madness based on previous form at the circuits. This year, above all his others in F1 to date, has been the one where he has shown why Red Bull put so much faith in him, why this team is being built around him. And he’s not finished yet. There’s still a championship fight on, and even if he can’t topple Lewis, you can bet the Dutch Lion is going to give him the fight of his life for it. Grade : A+, for continuing to be the man who has the entire motorsport world talking What more is there to say about Pierre Gasly’s Red Bull call-up that’s not been trodden to death by others by now? I won’t rag on the guy, because I think the circumstances need to be taken into account. It’s been saddening to see a guy who showed some promise in Toro Rosso’s experimentation season with Honda last year get thrust headlong into the Verstappen camp after only one season. It was confirmed rather early on by the team that Daniel Ricciardo leaving forced their hand, and it honestly has showed rather drastically. There’s been some flashes of what Pierre can do in that car, but he’s floundered rather consistently all season thus far. What lies ahead of the Frenchman is a fight to save his F1 career, frankly. The challenge is very straightforward, on paper: there’s nine races left this season. In these races, Pierre needs to come out swinging and settle into the Red Bull like he’s still yet to do. He’s not cracked completely, nor can he let himself, but there’s no ignoring that there’s a very steep hill to climb in front of him. Grade: C+, for floundering, but managing to keep a smile on his face. McLaren have gone and stumped the field this season. Everyone accepted that their debut season of the new Renault partnership was by no means representative of what the outfit could really do. What people weren’t expecting was to see just how good they were once their chassis had been brought back into working order. Leading the midfield by a country mile into the summer break, and rightfully so, having produced a car that’s fast, consistent, and has helped Carlos Sainz finish no lower than eighth in the past five races, an eleventh in Canada the only blip in that form over the past nine. That’s an outstanding turnaround from 2018, and one the team can clap themselves firmly on the back for. The only direction is up for them from here, and I look forward to seeing what new heights this resurgence can reach. Grade: A, for producing the second-best comeback of the season. Carlos Sainz was given what was essentially a team leader role this year, with big shoes to fill and a weight of expectation on his shoulders for a team trying to make a comeback from disaster last year. Did the Spaniard deliver? Boy, did he ever! His form has already been discussed, so let’s just settle on saying that Carlos Sainz is poised to lead this team back up the grid, possibly to its glory days at the top of the food chain if the 2021 regulations fall their way. He’s reinforced that he is a fast, level-headed, remarkably consistent driver who McLaren scored a coup in acquiring. I wouldn’t be surprised if some crazy race in the second half of the year ends up giving Carlos a third step on the podium, even if that does sound like fantasy-talk. Grade: A, for flourishing when the opportunity to step up was presented to him Meanwhile, his teammate Lando Norris has had an eventful rookie season thus far. The way I’d honestly look at it is that the has all the pace of Carlos (potential or otherwise), just none of the luck. He’s come away with two 6th places but three retirements to Carlos’ one, let’s not forget! Lando is having the rookie season I hoped he’d have, showing off the skill that McLaren saw in him, and having some dire situations thrown at him that he’s tackled with some admirable maturity. If he can continue honing his pace in that car, and hopefully have a bit better luck from September on, I think this will be an F1 debut he can look back at with pride. Grade: B+, for showing just how much potential he has left to realise Toro Rosso’s place in the standings probably feels a bit augmented courtesy of that freak podium in Germany, but there’s an important piece of context to remember. The team is running a car that’s partly an old Red Bull, and is still a development outfit at the end of the day. If anything, it rather signifies what the team have been very good at this year: capitalising on other team’s misfortunes or misjudgements to come away with decent results. With only three exceptions, the team have scored at least a point at every race this season, and snagged two double points hauls to boot. Germany was of course the wonder story, but there’s no denying Red Bull’s plucky little sister hasn’t earned its keep thus far, and has the potential to keep on doing that or better. Grade: B, for continuing the growth with Honda, and offering a proving ground for two drivers who needed it. Daniil Kvyat... What a story this lad’s treated us to, eh? Forced out of the Red Bull senior team one year, forced out of F1 altogether the next, only to come back and put on the performance he has thus far. He’s shown he clearly can still hang with the rest of them, even after a season’s absence. And then, we had that triumphant climax to the redemption arc two weeks ago, managing the wet wonderfully to make it a double Honda podium. Hard to try and predict what the future holds for him, inside this season and beyond, but if he manages to continue this form, I don’t think he’ll struggle at all to find a seat for next year. Grade: B, for pulling off the comeback story in beautiful fashion. Alex Albon has, in a car that’s not exactly setting the grid on fire, managed to pull off a very respectable F1 debut in my view. His fortunes almost seem to mirror Daniil’s. More often than not, when one’s scored, the other hasn’t. But what’s struck me the most about him (as it has about all of this year’s F1 debutants), is just how maturely he’s going about his business - no silly scraps, no truly careless mistakes, just goes out there and does his best race in and race out. Which is key to his development into the stalwart Red Bull surely hope that he can be. Had a great drive in Germany, considering it was his first wet race in an F1 car, but overall there’s been nothing ostensibly bad about the season so far for the Thai driver. Grade : B-, for a calm and collected start to what’s hopefully a successful career in F1. Renault have by no means at all been having the start to 2019 that they wanted. This was ‘laying the roof on the foundations’ time, to paraphrase Cyril Abiteboul, but the foundations have had a tunnel dug under them, and the man with the crane controls needs a pick-me-up. The hope, surely, was that even with McLaren sorting out their aero woes from 2018, the French outfit could finally shake off the embarrassment of being shown up so thoroughly by customer team Red Bull. The reality is not so pleasant, because now it’s Macca doing it instead. Gulfs between this year and last in how well the chassis handles certain tracks, an absolute nightmare in the reliability department at the start of the season, and some baffling strategy calls at times have made this year a step back rather than two forward. It will be very interesting to see if the team can halt their reverse momentum from Spa onwards. Grade : C, for somehow managing to come out worse with Red Bull not under their umbrella anymore. Nico Hulkenberg may as well be a fixture on the wall of the midfield, considering how he’s held station there for what’s been his entire F1 career. It would appear, unfortunately, that that doesn’t look set to change any time soon. Granted, his relationship with Renault has been quite an amicable one ever since moving from Force India in 2017, but it exemplifies his career in the sport, in all reality: a rock-solid driver who’s never really had that extra gear to make the move up. He’s put in some good performances, but hasn’t been able to grind out the points in the same way he’s been able to for the past few years. On fault of car or driver? I’d lean towards the latter former, but it doesn’t inspire much joy either way. Grade: B-, for at least not crumpling under the weight of having our next driver as a teammate Daniel Ricciardo has a question that he’s likely asked himself at least once this season: Where did it all go wrong? There was so much promise when he left Red Bull for pastures new last year, murmurings that Daniel’s transfer might have hallmarks of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes back in 2013. It would appear, unless the wave he’s about to ride has been slow to gather speed, that this isn’t the case. Regardless, Danny seems to have settled in well to his new team, finally coming to speed with how to get the car primed for divebombs the way he likes them, and coming out with some solid points in a few races thus far. Hopefully, Renault give him a car after the summer break that he can have a bit more fun in than before. Grade: B, for helping Nico salvage what’s not been the best of times for their team. Alfa Romeo, much like Ferrari, had a great deal of hullabaloo behind them going into the new season which also turned out to be at least a little bit of pie in the sky. There was talk of them being ahead of the curve, on the cusp of dominating the midfield this year. When, in reality, their results this year are being propped up by an icicle who I honestly feel is flattering the team and their car to quite some degree. There’s been signs in some places that this could be turning about, but not much of substance that I can see. Grade : C+, for at least giving Kimi a car that he can happily see out his years to retirement in. Speaking of Kimi Raikkonen, he’s shown so far why it should never be forgotten, even closing in on the (relatively) ripe age of 40 that he’s a world champion driver. Kimi hasn’t lost his class one bit, and is dragging that car to places you could easily argue that it has no right to be. Case in point being that he is responsible for all but one of the team’s points so far. Astounding. Kimi’s having a good time, and that makes me happy. Grade : B+ A, because bwoah to you, that’s why. Antonio Giovinazzi, on the other hand, is unfortunately not having the time everyone was hoping he might have in his ‘true’ F1 debut. Something that’s dawned on me, looking back at this is in perspective, is that there are a lot of worrying callbacks to the Alonso/Vandoorne pairing in McLaren of the two years gone, only arguably a bit worse. Elder statesman teammate to be compared to, a car that isn’t really the best on the grid that said teammate is dragging up the field. Except Antonio doesn’t seem to have that inherent racecraft and quali pace being overshadowed by his teammate’s, hence why I say it could well be worse. I hope that Antonio can find or at least start to discover his pace in the second half of the season, because I think the team are going to regret letting go of Marcus Ericsson rather sorely otherwise. Grade: C-, for making me throwback to that sad, sad time Trying to grade the mid-season of The Team Formerly Known As Force India is like trying to judge an art competition based on concept sketches. You know there’s more to come, but you can’t quite see it yet, so you’re left wondering what you can really say. The team had a nice start to the season, picking up a handful of points at every race, with a repeat of usual form at Baku, but then started to flounder backwards until Germany finally announced the end of one of the team’s notorious quirks: the worst case of development lag on the entire grid. Whether their new funding courtesy of the Stroll conglomerate is going to help free that up for next year is anyone’s guess, but for now, there are green shoots, just ones I can’t really assess yet. Grade: B-, for keeping their heads above water while the cavalry of new parts arrived. Sergio Perez has beyond a doubt earned his keep and his seat with the first half of his season, either fighting for points or to get into the points at nearly every race this year. Much like his old Hulk-ish teammate, Sergio’s made the midfield his wheelhouse for his F1 career, and he’s had no small part (even excluding his hand in the takeover last year) in keeping that team afloat, a reputation he’s kept up this year. Hopefully, with the car beneath him from Spa onwards, he can lead a charge for some better results to give the new owners something to smile about. Grade: B, for being the wily little Mexican we all know and love still Lance Stroll has… honestly had the season I thought he might in his new home at Racing Point. His tenure with Williams showed it, even if he was being compared with a much more storied teammate there in the first year - his qualifying is arguably some of the weakest on the grid, and it’s very unfortunate, because his racecraft is great. His starts continue to draw attention, his ability to nail down a place is wonderful (even against a far superior opponent as we saw in Germany and Canada), and he’s actually responsible for more of the team’s current points than Checo. Madness, you’d surely have cried! If there’s some kind of block he has for extracting one-lap pace, I hope he can find it and remove it, because it would make him a driver well worthy of where he sits in far more people’s eyes. Grade: C, for still needing to bump up that average starting position Haas have had a reversal of fortune comparable to McLaren’s fall from grace last year, and it is honestly devastating to see. A complete lack of understanding of why the car has such poor race performance, such an inability to maintain its tyres that is making dozens scratch their head in abject bewilderment at what this flaw in the chassis design could possibly be. There’s been some lucky breaks, but the situation has been slipping fast from their hands, and everyone is hoping that they can reach a solution over the summer. Grade: D, because something has clearly gone very wrong. Romain Grosjean is having the last kind of start to 2019 that he would have wanted. Outscored by his teammate by more than double so far, still falling prey to the sort of silly mistakes that plagued his run last year, and now seeming to scrap with said teammate every other race, giving me flashbacks to the Force India boys from two years ago. I commend Haas for sticking with him and KMag and not just dropping him for the next new talent, but I think it’s fair to say that the time’s come for Romain to consider calling time on F1, for his own sake as much as the team’s. Grade: C-, because the moments of brilliance are getting fewer and further between. Kevin Magnussen continues to be the more consistent of the two Haas drivers, which makes me wonder if giving Romain the Australia-spec chassis was a ploy to keep his confidence boosted. Speculations aside, he’s brought home some valuable points where they’re getting scarcer and scarcer for the American outfit. However, it has to be said that his driving style is very volatile and still earning raised eyebrows on the grid. Why this is noteworthy is that his teammate’s are among them. Kevin needs to get a pep-talk on reigning things in around Romain, because they’re liable to tearing themselves down from the inside. Grade: C, still bringing home some bacon, but not without skinning a few prize calves in the process. And lastly on our journey, we come to Williams, and I won’t mess around too much here. Something is rotten in the state of one of Britain’s oldest racing teams, and it’s hard to tell if it’s being rectified or not. The car seems to be improving, yes, but is it going to improve enough is what remains to be seen, especially with another year under these chassis and aero regulations to get through. We could see this languishing at the back carry on for a while yet if the team aren’t careful. Grade: E, because the crash to the depths does finally seem to be making a turnaround. George Russell is going to be the driver for me that defies his team’s rating categorically because he has proven to be quite the unsung hero this season. Whether his pace relative to his teammate is reflective or not, he has consistently and convincingly been the faster Williams all season, and almost gave the team its first Q2 appearance of the season at Hungary - what a feat. I am very glad that Toto Wolff has expressly ruled out calling George up to Mercedes next year because Williams desperately need him to try and continue their regrowth. Grade: B+, for showing one of the most level and realistic heads on the grid in the face of absolute calamity and nearly making a miracle happen at the Hungaroring. Robert Kubica, on the other hand has had the most upsetting run on the grid this year. Everyone was full of hope for the returning hero this year, confident that yes, he’d struggle, but surely it wouldn’t be for long! Right? Alas, I think we can safely say now that Robert’s attempt at a return was an ill-fated one. He just doesn’t have that magic touch he seemed to have back in the day. He fought his way back, which I commend him highly for, but it just isn’t happening. Grade: F, with a heavy heart. Not even that point in Germany redeems this year, in my eyes.

1960 college football season when undefeated and number three-ranked Minnesota met undefeated and number-one ranked Iowa in Minneapolis. The game was for the Big Ten Conference championship, the 1961 Rose Bowl berth, and the #1 ranking. Minnesota won, 27-10.

Bronko Nagurski:
Nagurski became a standout playing both tackle on defense and fullback on offense at Minnesota from 1927 to 1929. In 1929, after leading the nation in rushing with 737 yards he was a consensus All-American at fullback, and despite playing fewer games at the position also made some All-American teams at tackle.
Laurence Maroney:
At the University of Minnesota, he split duties with Marion Barber III in 2003 and 2004 and then with Gary Russell in 2005. As such, he started only 14 of 36 games, but still became the first Golden Gopherand the third in Big Ten Conference history to rush for 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons. He gained a total of 3,933 yards with the Golden Gophers and was a two time All-Big Ten First Team selection (2004–2005).
Marion Barber III:
Like his father, he played college football at the University of Minnesota where the coaches originally wanted him to play safety, but after seeing him run, they kept him at running back where he ranks fourth on the school's all-time rushing list with 3,276 yards, second with 4,495 all-purpose yards and second in rushing touchdowns with 35, one better than his father, Marion Barber Jr.. He also teamed up since his sophomore year with running back Laurence Maroney to form one of the best duo backs in college football, becoming the first teammates in Division 1 history to each rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. He was an All-Big Ten selection in 2003 as a red shirt sophomore.
Sandy Stephens:
Stephens was the first black man to play quarterback at the University of Minnesota and remains the only quarterback to take the Gophers to the Rose Bowl (1961 and 1962). In 1960, along with Uniontown (PA) High School teammate Bill Munsey, he led the University of Minnesota to an 8-1 regular season record and the national championship. Stephens became the first African-American major-college All-American quarterback and finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy balloting. In 1961, Stephens received the Chicago Tribune Silver Football as the Most Valuable Player of the Big Ten Conference.

Lou Holtz:
Holtz accepted the head coach job at the University of Minnesota before the 1984 season. The Golden Gophers had won only four games in the previous two seasons, but had a winning record in 1985 and were invited to the Independence Bowl, where they defeated Clemson, 20–13. Holtz did not coach the Gophers in that bowl game, as he had already accepted the head coaching position at Notre Dame. His contract included a "Notre Dame clause" that allowed him to leave if that coaching job were to become available. Years later, the NCAA placed Minnesota on two years probation for 17 rule violations, two of which were committed by Holtz during his tenure. Greatest Rivalries:
The 1934 Iowa-Minnesota games was one that started a strained relationship that would last decades, During the game Iowa running back, Ozzie Simmons, took hits that he thought were cheap and because of him being one o the few black players of the era. Iowa complained that the Gophers were piling it on, and dishing out blatant late hits in a game that ended with the Gophers winning 48-12. The following year, when the Gophers were set to travel to Iowa City, Coach Bernie Bierman received many threatening letters from Iowa fans as a result of the game the previous year. The threats caused Bierman to request police protection for him and his team. The day before the game, Iowa Governor Clyde L. Herring told reporters, "If the officials stand for any rough tactics like Minnesota used last year, I'm sure the crowd won't." Herring’s message was clear. “What he was saying was, ‘If you treat Ozzie like you treated him last year, we’re coming out of the stands,’” Simmons said. When this news reached Minnesota Bierman threatened to break off athletic relations with Iowa. Minnesota Attorney General Harry H. Peterson practically accused the Iowa governor of thuggery. "Your remark that the crowd at the Iowa–Minnesota game will not stand for any rough tactics is calculated to incite a riot," said Peterson. "It is a breach of your duty as governor, and evidences an unsportsmanlike, cowardly and contemptible frame of mind." To lighten the mood, Minnesota Governor Floyd Olson sent a telegram to Governor Herring on game-day morning, which read, "Dear Clyde, Minnesota folks are excited over your statement about the Iowa crowd lynching the Minnesota football team. I have assured them that you are a law-abiding gentleman and are only trying to get our goat. The Minnesota team will tackle clean, but, oh! how hard, Clyde. If you seriously think Iowa has any chance to win, I will bet you a Minnesota prize hog against an Iowa prize hog that Minnesota wins today. The loser must deliver the hog in person to the winner. Accept my bet thru a reporter. You are getting odds because Minnesota raises better hogs than Iowa. My best personal regards and condolences. The Iowa governor accepted, and word of the bet reached Iowa City as the crowd gathered at the stadium. Things calmed down and the game was untroubled. Minnesota won 13-6, and Iowa star Ozzie Simmons played an injury-free game. Afterwards, the Minnesota players went out of their way to compliment Simmons, and Simmons praised the Gophers for their clean, hard-fought play. Minnesota went on to win their second straight national championship. Governor Herring obtained an award-winning prize pig which had been donated by Allen Loomis, the owner of Rosedale Farms near Fort Dodge, Iowa. Dubbed Floyd after Minnesota Governor Olson, the pig was the brother of BlueBoy from Will Rogers' movie State Fair. A few days later, Governor Herring collected "Floyd of Rosedale" and personally walked him into Governor Olson’s carpeted office. Governor Olson later offered Floyd up as the grand prize in a state-wide essay-writing contest, which was won by 14-year old Robert Jones. A few years later, Floyd of Rosedale caught cholera and died. Since the two schools could not continue wagering a live pig, Governor Olson commissioned Saint Paul sculptor Charles Brioscho to capture Floyd's image. The result was a bronze pig trophy 53 cm (21 inches) long and 38 cm (15 inches) high. Iowa and Minnesota have played for the Floyd of Rosedale trophy every year since then. The winner of the annual Iowa-Minnesota football game is entitled to keep the trophy until the following year's contest.
The trophy is a symbol of one of the most storied rivalries in college football, representing the most-played rivalry in Division I-A football, with 122 editions dating back to 1890. The Golden Gophers lead the all-time series 58-56-8, while the Badgers lead the Axe series 38-24-3. The Paul Bunyan Axe was created by the Wisconsin letterwinners' organization (the National W Club) and would be instituted as the trophy in the series in 1948. The scores of each game are recorded on the axe's handle, which is 6 feet long. The original axe was retired after the 2003 game and a new axe was created for the 2004 game. When the game ends, if the team holding the trophy wins, they run to their own sideline, take the axe and carry it around the field. If the team not holding the trophy wins, they are allowed to run to their opponents' sideline and "steal" the axe away. Usually, after the winning team claims the axe, it is custom for the team to carry the axe to one of the goal posts and "chop" it down with the axe. Previously the game was played for the “Slab of Bacon” trophy,.The Slab of Bacon was created in 1930 as a way for the universities to commemorate their rivalry. The Slab of Bacon was a piece of black walnut wood carved with a football topped by a letter W or M, depending on which end it was hung from. It was carved by Dr. R. B. Fouch of Minneapolis. Scores of each Wisconsin–Minnesota game were printed on the back of the trophy. When the trophy changed hands, it was presented to the winning school by a sorority from the losing school. After the Gophers' 1943 victory, a ceremonial exchange was supposed to take place, but the officials involved could not find each other on the field. Wisconsin sent the trophy to Minnesota's locker room. The Gophers' coach at the time, Dr. George Hauser, refused to accept it, stating he believed "such trophies should be out for the duration" (of World War II). The trophy disappeared and was replaced by Paul Bunyan's Axe in 1948. The Slab of Bacon was missing until 1994, when it was discovered in a storage room at the Wisconsin Athletic Department during a renovation of Camp Randall Stadium. Although allegedly "lost," it had been maintained: as the scores of every Wisconsin-Minnesota game from 1930 through 1970 were evident on the back of the slab. The Slab of Bacon is currently housed in the Wisconsin football office at Camp Randall Stadium. "We took home the bacon," then-head coach Barry Alvarez said, "and kept it."
The earthenware jug, originally used by Michigan coach Fielding H. Yost, is painted with the victories of each team. The name most likely originates in the 1869 song of the same name by Joseph Winner. After Yost took over coaching the Wolverines in 1901, the team went on to win 28 straight games. In the meantime, Minnesota assembled one of the best teams in school history, so Gopher fans were excited about possibly ending the Wolverines' streak. As Yost and the team came into Minneapolis, student manager Thomas B. Roberts was told to purchase something to carry water. Yost was somewhat concerned that Gopher fans might contaminate his water supply. Roberts purchased a five-gallon jug for 30¢ from a local variety store. Twenty thousand fans watched the matchup between the two teams in an overflowing Northrop Field. Minnesota held the fabled "point-a-minute" squad to just one touchdown, but hadn't yet managed to score a touchdown of their own. Finally, late in the second half, the Gophers reached the endzone to tie the game at 6. As clouds from an impending storm hung overhead, pandemonium struck when Minnesota fans stormed the field in celebration. Eventually the game had to be called with two minutes remaining. The Wolverines walked off the field, leaving the jug behind in the locker room of the University of Minnesota Armory. The next day custodian Oscar Munson brought the jug to L. J. Cooke, head of the Minnesota athletics department, and declared in a thick Scandinavian accent: "Yost left his yug." Exactly how Munson came to possess the jug is a bit of a mystery. Some accounts say that Munson purposely stole the jug in the chaos that ended the game, although most believe it was accidentally left behind. Thomas Roberts, writing in 1956, stated that the jug had served its purpose, so he intentionally left it sitting on the field. Still, Cooke and Munson were excited to have this little bit of memorabilia, proceeding to paint it brown (it had originally been putty-colored and currently is painted half blue, which is Michigan's color) and commemorate the day by writing "Michigan Jug –; Captured by Oscar, October 31, 1903" on the side along with the score "Michigan 6, Minnesota 6". Of course, in the spirit of the moment, Minnesota's score was written many times larger than that of Michigan. When the two schools met in football again in 1909, Cooke and the Minnesota team captain decided that playing for the jug "might be material to build up a fine tradition between the two institutions." When presented with this idea, Yost and Michigan's captain agreed, and the jug thus became the traveling trophy it is today. Michigan took home the jug in 1909 and 1910. Minnesota and Michigan met up again in 1919 after Michigan rejoined the Big Ten Conference, marking the first year that Minnesota won the jug outright. Gophers in the NFL currently:

Al's Breakfast is an icon in Dinkytown (one of the U's neighborhoods): 14 stools, zero pretension, immensely popular. If you want a fancier breakfast, downtown's Hell's Kitchen pre-dates the TV show and features all sorts of great items in a decor inspired by the owner's love of Ralph Steadman's deranged artwork. If you are feeling cheap on a date and you are paying for two, like I was when I went, get the walleye.
The Jucy Lucy, a cheese-stuffed burger, is a Minneapolis invention. Like many cities, there are two places that claim to have invented it: Matt's Bar and the 5-8 Club. Of those two the usual winner is Matt's. The Blue Door Pub does modern takes that are popular, but the best non-traditional Jucy Lucy is actually at Vincent in downtown Minneapolis: the meat is a mix of ground beef and braised short ribs, stuffed with smoked Gouda and served with lettuce, tomato, and a toasted bun (the chef who invented it succeeded Andrew Zimmern at a local restaurant where he made a name for himself before the latter became super-famous)--it's so good the Vincent Burger was introduced at the Twin's Target Field.
Other campus hotspots: Mesa pizza is always full on the weekends because drunk people love mac and cheese pizza, I personally think it is overrated. Raising Cane’s has the best chicken tenders on the planet, don’t even argue this until you have had them, I guarantee you will agree. We have a terrific selection if you want asian food. Panda of course, but also a place called Kowloon down Washington toward BK that has much better food and is pretty unknown around campus. Big Ten is awesome as well, with subs that are out of this world. A place called Annie’s Parlor with delicious malts and a view of downtown from their patio.
Bars: Sallys and Stubb and Herbs are two great bars on campus. Also, Blarney’s is pretty fun if you are looking for a ton of woo-girls from sororities. We have a bar called the Library on campus, so if your mom calls to ask what you are doing on a Friday night you can tell her the truth and say you are going to The Library.

There are actually two large campuses that make up the main University of Minnesota: The Minneapolis (divided into East and West banks) and the St. Paul campus. The stadium and most of the traditional academic buildings are on the east bank of the Minneapolis campus.

The “Golden” adjective has not always been a part of the Gopher nickname. During the 1930, the Minnesota football team wore gold jerseys and pants. Legendary KSTP-AM radio announcer Halsey Hall coined the term “Golden Gophers” in reference to the team’s all-gold attire on the field.
From 1932 through 1941, Minnesota compiled an impressive record, losing only 12 games and winning seven Big Ten titles and five national championships.
Ski-U-Mah, This famous Minnesota phrase, pronounced SKY-YOU-MAH, is more than 115 years old. In 1884, two Minnesota rugby players, John W. Adams and Win Sargent, tried to think of a fitting team yell. They used the word “Ski”, a Sioux battle cry meaning victory, and combined it with “U-Mah” (representing the University of Minnesota and rhyming with “rah-rah-rah”) to create a team cheer. The phrase stuck and was incorporated into both official school songs, “Hail Minnesota” and more commonly in the “Minnesota Rouser.”
For the 2012-2013 season a defensive player wore #51 in honor of Gary Tinsley in every game, Tinsley was a star Linebacker who graduated last year and unexpectedly died of heart problems last summer in his apartment that he shared with Keanon Cooper, one of our team leaders. What Is and What is to Come 2012 was supposed to be the year of MarQueis Gray, our everything player that started off as a WR but was moved to QB. Arguably one of the most physically gifted players in the B1G the past 2-3 years. MarQueis was supposed to take us to the promised land this year, but injury wouldn’t allow it so he was out for a good portion of the season. He was replaced by Max Shortell, who most Gophers fans despise, Shortell was not productive enough to keep his job so he was also benched and has since tranfered to Jacksonville State University in Alabama. Following Shortell’s underpreforming, the Gophers were forced to play Philip Nelson, a true Freshman that we had hoped to keep redshirted. Nelson preformed at a level better than most true freshman starters you see, but he still has a lot more room to grow. Spring Game Highlights In 2013 I expect a lot from this team, we have returning starters all over the offense and defense. Our backfield is deep, with Donnell Kirkwood who rushed for ~900 yards last season returning for two more seasons, along with Rodrick Williams who has three more years and has shown great ability that we expect from all the guys we bring up from Texas (Looking at you, Alex_Mayes - btw, get your brother to come to the U and I will love you forever) and Berkley Edwards, brother of Braylon, coming in this year is really a good catch for us. We have also had our first 4 star commit in a while with RB Jeff Jones, hopefully he sticks around (class of 2014) We have a lot of questions at WR with a relatively young and inexperienced group. A guy who I expected to be great, Andre McDonald, has fallen off the radar completely, which just adds to our long running bad luck with promising recruits. Jamel Harbison, who was injured last year, was a stud in the spring game, so hopefully he can spark the passing game. On Defense we have Ra’shede Hageman, who is one of the most intimidation human beings I have ever seen, he has gotten much bigger and stronger since last season (benched 450 and cleans ~350) so hopefully he can do big things. This is the year that I think Minnesota football is going to start preforming at a higher level. We will see what happens though. We are young a LB so that should be interesting to see who filled vacant roles there. Ski-U-Mah, and fuck the Badgers. Thanks for reading.
